Charbonier Road Water Main Replacement Project

Project Overview

Missouri American Water is replacing approximately 6,000 feet of aging water main along Charbonier Road, from Lindbergh to Shackleford, improving service and reliability for area customers. The pipes running along Charbonier Road were first installed in 1962 and have experienced many breaks in recent years. Replacing the old water pipe, looping existing water pipe and adding new valves will significantly reduce the chance of future service disruptions.

Fast Facts

  • Replacement of about 6,000 feet of water pipe originally installed in the early 1960s
  • The website will provide maps for each phase of the project
  • Project is expected to take 6-8 months to complete
  • Sections of the north bound lane will be closed where construction is active
  • Construction is done by Missouri American Water. The restoration will be done by external contractors.

Charbonier Road Water Main Replacement Project

Construction Phases

Most construction work will occur Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Work is not expected to occur outside of these hours unless required to meet the completion timeline.

  1. Phase 1: Shackelford Road to 1850 Charbonier Road
  2. Phase 2: 1830 Charbonier Road to Naomi Avenue
  3. Phase 3: Naomi Avenue to 1143 Charbonier Road
  4. Phase 4: 1143 Charbonier Road to 936 Charbonier Road
  5. Phase 5: 936 Charbonier Road to 1 Floweridge Lane
  6. Phase 6: 1 Floweridge Lane to Rosetta Drive

Traffic Impacts

Sections of the north bound lane will be closed where construction is active. This will reduce the expected time of the project and increase the safety of our employees and the site. Roadway signage will be updated throughout the project to reflect lane closures during construction.

Temporary Service Interruptions

Water service will be temporarily interrupted to connect water service from the old water pipes to the new ones, and when the new water pipes are connected to the existing water system. These interruptions last a few hours, every effort will be made to notify customers prior.

Flushing

An important part of this project is to flush as the pipe is installed. Throughout installation of the new pipe, crews will be flushing periodically. Residents can expect to see what will look like substantial amounts of water being used. This is normal and is not an indication of any broken water pipe.

Restoration

For efficiency, restoration crews will begin work following construction crews as sections of new pipe are installed. This project is also being coordinated with county road improvements to minimize traffic impacts.
