American Water’s Contract Services Group in Partnership with Hopeworks Launches a GIS Program

American Water’s Contract Services Group joined with Hopeworks to conduct a Geographic Information System (GIS) pilot program. Starting with orientation and extensive safety training, the young professionals proceeded to conduct data mapping to acquire accurate GIS database information to verify and update the physical location of approximately 18,000 assets (water & sewer), within the Camden system.

“Hopeworks has partnered with American Water Operations and Maintenance (AWO&M) in a great collaboration. Hopeworks is locating the water infrastructure using high-accuracy GPS technology in the City of Camden while providing training to young professionals in the area of Geographic Information Systems (GIS). AmeriCANS In Action! Month of Service – September 2022

September marks American Water’s company-wide annual month of community service. Although our dedicated employees share their time and expertise throughout the year, September encourages our colleagues to take the lead on managing team-based volunteer efforts in their respective communities across the country – creating a real impact while serving those in need.

In Camden, over 100 employees dedicated hundreds of hours to more than 10 service projects throughout the city. Some of the 2022 service projects included neighborhood clean-ups, meal service with Cathedral Kitchen and food distributions with Mighty Writers, shoreline clean up of the Delaware River Backchannel and our 9/11 flag memorial – American Water’s annual tradition commemorating the lives lost on Sept. 11, 2001.

Camden! American Water Annual Holiday Toy Drive

For the past four years, American Water, has committed to supporting the Camden Special Services District (CSSD) Ambassadors and their families for the holidays. The Camden Special Services District, also known as the “Yellow-Jackets” crew, is comprised of Camden residents who, provide enhanced cleaning and hospitality services to the City of Camden. The Ambassadors work every day to create a welcoming community by cleaning up trash and debris around the neighborhood, removing graffiti, clearing storm drains, planting and maintaining planter boxes and trimming/weeding curb lines.

In addition to collecting and donating over 400 toys, American Water was thrilled to host the CSSD Ambassadors and their families for a holiday dinner at our headquarters.
