Pennsylvania American Water’s Brownsville District Team Recognized for Outstanding Safety Achievement

Brownsville, Pa. (Sept. 28, 2020) – Pennsylvania American Water’s Brownsville district is celebrating more than 13 years of safety excellence. The Brownsville team was recently recognized for reaching a remarkable milestone of logging 5,000 days injury free.

“This incredible achievement is a testament to Pennsylvania American Water’s commitment to safety, which stretches across every facet of our organization,” said Jake Gentile, Senior Manager of Operations for Southwest Pennsylvania. “For more than 13 years, our Brownsville team has worked around the clock at a facility that utilizes heavy machinery, chemicals, and electrical equipment.”

The Brownsville employees have treated more than 14 billion gallons of water during this 13-year period. The Brownsville water treatment plant treats and delivers water to nearly 9,500 people in communities throughout Fayette and Washington counties.

Pennsylvania American Water employees complete a variety of safety trainings each year including chemical handling, confined space, and work zone safety training. The company also heavily promotes employee participation in its safety near-miss program, which helps identify and correct possible hazards to prevent injuries.

In addition to the achievement, the Brownsville water treatment plant has been recognized for delivering outstanding drinking water quality under the Partnership for Safe Water – achieving the program’s Directors Award in 2019. This national program awards water systems for taking voluntary measures to continuously optimize performance to help protect the health and safety of customers.
